Repairing Spalled Concrete

What is spalling, and how is it caused? When the surface of brick or concrete flakes or powders, it called spalling. This is the result of moisture in the brick or concrete. The freeze-thaw cycle stresses the brick or concrete near the surface and causes pieces to flake off. This is rarely a structural problem no matter how unsightly it is, but it does indicate that there is a moisture problem which should be fixed.
